FAIR-EASE at the EuroGOOS Data Management, Exchange, and Quality Working Group (DATAMEQ WG) meeting

The FAIR-EASE project is set to present its latest developments at the EuroGOOS Data Management, Exchange, and Quality Working Group (DATAMEQ WG) meeting on November 13, 2024. The project team, including Thierry Carval (Ifremer), Virginie Racapé (Pokapok), Peter Thijsse (MARIS), Simona Simoncelli (INGV), and Alessandra Giorgetti (OGS), will showcase results from the Coastal Water Dynamics Pilot. This presentation marks an important milestone in the ongoing collaboration between FAIR-EASE and EuroGOOS's data management initiatives.

The DATAMEQ Working Group, currently led by incoming chair Thierry Carval from Ifremer, plays an important role in improving the harmonisation and integration of European marine data. Working closely with major marine data initiatives including Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS), SeaDataNet, EMODnet, JERICO Next, and AtlantOS, the group focuses on developing comprehensive management concepts for observation data, identifying real-time and delayed mode observation requirements, and establishing minimum standards for data quality control. Their work bridges the gap between real-time and historical data streams while maintaining close coordination with EuroGOOS Task Teams and Regional Operational Oceanographic Systems (ROOS).

This meeting takes place within the broader context of EuroGOOS, the European component of the Global Ocean Observing System of the IOC-UNESCO. With its secretariat in Brussels serving 48 members and supporting five regional systems in Europe, EuroGOOS works to identify priorities, enhance cooperation, and promote the benefits of operational oceanography. Through its various working groups, networks of observing platforms, and regional systems, EuroGOOS provides essential forums for cooperation, facilitates access to quality marine data, and delivers common strategies, priorities, and standards, all contributing to an integrated, sustained, and fit-for-purpose European ocean observing framework under EOOS.
